Dam Construction & Desilting
Dozers and Excavators come into their own in the world of Dam building and Dam de-silting - and is a critical part of water management on farm. Dams not only capture water for stock and domestic use, they form a major part of controlling soil erosion and can ensure that water is harvested and directed where it needs to be.
So much water is lost, and this is not effective farm management. If you can have your dams placed in the correct locations, then the run off is captured and then excess can be disbursed across the paddocks to irrigate in a natural way.
So many dams have an incredible amount of silt built up in them and this drastically reduces the capacity of the dams as well as making them unsafe for stock and humans. So many animals have perished by being stuck in dam silt. By desilting, you restore the dam back to what is used to be, often with increased capacity and storage of this water and all the silt is then rehabilitated on the surrounding dam banks to make the best use of this material and not leave an unsightly mess!
By using the Longreach is some situations, the silt that has previously been difficult to access is made so easy with the 60 foot reach of boom.
Dam construction can also be used in a Permaculture capacity by utilising the water through the spill ways to swales, which then distributes the water across the paddocks, rather than it rushing through and causing not only erosion, but waste and ending up down a gully.
